Question: When is it appropriate to joke that you’ve arrived to “take over” a place of business and that the receptionist can be a hostage?

On a related note, part of my annual evaluation included feedback/comments from coworkers. Someone commented that I seem to become emotional quickly during stressful situations. I’m starting to feel self-conscious about that, but also pissed, because I can’t help how I react to upsetting situations. I’m not trained nor prepared to deal with crises. Yes, I am easily troubled, but I work in an environment with a lot of unstable clients and depressing/disturbing situations, and I happen to have a very tender heart. I’ll happily get myself out of this work environment as soon as I can.
